Having received approval from the state health commissioner in 2006 to proceed with our plans to construct a 300-bed replacement facility, the new Southside Regional Medical Center has been under construction for the past two years.
The new facility, which will replace our existing hospital located near the downtown business district of the City of Petersburg, is adjacent to Interstate 95 on a 50-acre site off of South Crater Road. Our patients, most of which reside in the communities of Chester, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg and Fort Lee, as well as the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Surry, Sussex and surrounding communities, will enjoy easier access to our new campus.
The new hospital, with its open and bright main lobby, consists of 5 floors, with provisions to add additional floors in the future. Key departments and patient treatment areas will offer enhanced patient access. There will be ample parking for patients, visitors and employees. The majority of patient rooms are private, and there is considerable square footage devoted to spacious outpatient treatment areas, such as the Emergency Room, Laboratory, and Radiology. The new hospital will continue to provide comprehensive services for cancer treatment, cardiac care, orthopedic surgery, women’s health and other specialty care.
