Radiation Oncologist Becomes National “Czar” for Veterans Administration

Michael Hagan, MD, PhD , a physician-scientist at VCU Massey Cancer Center and Southside Regional Medical Center Cancer Center, specializing in radiation oncology, was appointed by the Veterans Administration to serve as its National Director of Radiation Oncology Services to help standardize and improve patient care in the VA national network. While undertaking this new role, Dr. Hagan will scale back his practice at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center to part-time.

"Veterans in Richmond, the Tri-Cities and southern Virginia have had access to Mike's excellent care and Massey's clinical trials for years in his role as Chief of Radiation Oncology at the VA," said Mitch Anscher, MD, chair of Massey's department of radiation oncology. "We are thrilled that Mike is taking on this national leadership role in order to make the best radiation oncology care available to veterans nationwide."

Dr. Hagan's clinical focus includes genitourinary, prostate, bladder and testicular cancers, and his research focuses on the effects of irradiation on biological systems.
