Grading System

The grading system used for courses offered on the SRMC campus is based on the student's achievement of the course objectives. The grading scale is as follows:

Theory:

Letter Grade  Percentage Grade  *Quality Points
 A:  Excellent 93-100  4
 B: Good 86-92   3
 C: Satisfactory 70-79  2
 D:  Poor 70-75   1
 F: Failure Below  Below 70  0

 Clinical:

Letter Grade  Percentage Grade  *Quality Points
 A:  Excellent 93-100  4
 B: Good 86-92   3
 C: Satisfactory 75-85  2
 F: Failure Below Below 75  0

Clinical experience will be graded independently from the classroom courses. A final passing grade is required in the clinical courses to remain in the program. If the student is not demonstrating a pattern of satisfactory clinical performance, the clinical coordinator will meet with the student to formulate a plan for improvement. Students must achieve all clinical course objectives/competencies by the end of the course to receive a passing grade. A failure in clinical performance results in a final course grade of F.

Progression Criteria

Students progress through the program of studies according to the curriculum plan outlined in the catalog. All radiography courses must be completed in sequence. All general education college support courses designated as prerequisites must be completed prior to enrollment in the program.

Satisfactory completion of any radiography or biology course requires a final course grade of C or higher.

A student may repeat a failed course one time. A student who fails a course and wishes to continue in the program must submit a written request to the Program Director. Permission to repeat the course is not automatic and requires written recommendation from the Admission Committee. Students who fail two radiography courses or two biology courses will be dismissed from the school and are ineligible to return.

Incomplete

A student who does not complete all class and clinical requirements by the end of the term because of extenuating circumstances may be given an "incomplete". Any student who receives an "incomplete" must finish the course within three weeks of the final day of the term in which the student received the incomplete.

Graduation Requirements

A student is eligible for graduation when:

  1. All required courses are satisfactorily completed.
  2. All financial obligations to SRMC are resolved.
  3. The student exit form has been completed.
  4. Achieves a cumulative GPA in the radiography courses of 2.5 or higher.

Withdrawals

A. Voluntary/Leave of Absence
A student may withdraw or request a leave of absence at any time during the program. A student who wishes to withdraw or request a leave of absence from the School of Radiation Sciences must submit a written letter to the Program Director of the School of Radiation Sciences. This document should include the effective date of withdrawal/leave, the reason for leaving the school, and date the student plans to return. If no letter is received, the last day of class or clinical attendance will be considered the date of withdrawal for purposes of financial aid refunds. Students who withdraw for health reasons must have physician clearance before return to the program is considered.

B. Involuntary
The School of Radiation Science faculty and administration make every effort to help students who experience difficulty in adjusting to the program and its requirements. However, faculty may recommend withdrawal of a student. The Program Director reserves the right to dismiss any student whose health, conduct, or level of achievement does not meet the standards essential to the individual's performance as a student. The student will be afforded due process in the event of such an occurrence.

Students who withdraw from a radiography course prior to midterm will receive a grade of "W" on the permanent record.

Students who withdraw from a radiography course after midterm will receive a grade of "F" unless medical or extenuating circumstances exist as determined by the Program Director of the School at the time of withdrawal. This "F" will count as a failed radiography course.

The Student Exit Form must be completed before withdrawal/leave of absence is official.

C. Readmission of Withdrawn Students
A student who is eligible to return to the program, must submit a letter requesting readmission to Office of Admissions. The letter of request must include reason for seeking readmission, date of admission desired, statement of academic and personal activities since term of withdrawal, if applicable, transcripts for any schools attended subsequent to withdrawal. The decision for readmission will be made by the Admission Committee and the applicant will be promptly notified of the committee's decision. Outstanding financial obligations, if any, to the school, hospital, or cooperating agencies must be resolved before readmission to the program. Placement is determined by the Admission Committee.

GPA

Grade point average is based on courses offered at SRMC and Richard Bland College while enrolled in the radiography program. College course grades accepted for advanced standing (transfer) from other universities prior to enrollment are not included in the calculations. If a course is repeated, the higher grade is used to compute the grade point average, however, both the original and second grade are recorded on the students' permanent record. Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at Richard Bland College and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the radiography program to be eligible for graduation.
