Southside Regional Medical Center Professional Schools offers two methods of education to assist you in achieving your goal of becoming a registered nurse (RN).
All nursing courses are offered in both options. The credit hour cost for both programs is the same, and both options lead to a Diploma in Nursing.
Option I – Traditional Classroom
Students who choose this option are enrolled in and attend traditional, seated classes at the Southside Regional Medical Center campus in Petersburg, Virginia.
Clinical rotations are completed at area health care facilities.
Option II – Distance Education
Students who choose this option are enrolled in classes, but complete their class work in an online or web based format. These courses contain the same content as the on-campus courses but are available in an anytime, anywhere (asynchronous) format. This option allows instructors to place course content in a password protected site that can only be accessed by students who are registered for the class. Clinical rotations are completed at health care facilities located area health care facilities. Clinical rotations are not completed on-line or in a web based format, students need to be prepared to drive to a variety assigned clinical sites.
Students register for either program option in the same manner, meeting the same admission requirements. The only difference in the two offerings is the manner in which the course content is received.

** Currently, we are in the process of reviewing all of our program admission dates and offerings. At this time, several factors are impacting our course schedule and class offerings for the Distance Education Nursing Program for the Spring 2010 term; therefore there will be no Distance Education Nursing class admitted for Spring 2010, and future admission dates remain under review.
