Work Hardening

An additional service that Southside Regional Rehabilitative Services offers is work-hardening.

Work hardening is like work circuit training, and can last one to eight hours as needed to restore the endurance needed to return to full work. Functional capacity evaluations quantify what types and how much of various work type exertions can be tolerated on a sustainable basis. This helps the employer to match the employee to work duties appropriate to his/her physical condition. Some employers, in an effort to prevent on-the-job-injuries, have their prospective employees pass a fitness-for-the-job test called a pre-employment screen. All of these mentioned tests are routinely performed at our Colonial Heights Clinic.

Mike Kowal, our senior Physical Therapist, has more than 15 years of experience in occupational physical therapy. The clinic at Southside Regional Rehabilitative Services Colonial Heights is very large and it houses large equipment that can simulate various jobs. Special tests are done as needed, including work hardening, functional capacity evaluations, pre-employment testing, and return-to-work checks.
