No one plans to visit the emergency room, it just happens and usually when you least expect it.
The Emergency Department (ED) at Southside Regional Medical Center is equipped to care for all types of emergencies 24-hours a day and is the only Trauma Center in the Tri-Cities and southern Virginia. SRMC treats more than 60,000 ER patients a year and with more than 380 physicians on staff representing more than 40 specialties, the hospital is well equipped to handle a full array of medical emergencies.
SRMC's Emergency Room boasts two trauma rooms and two cardiac care rooms for patients requiring a higher level of care. The ER offers a radiology suite for routine imaging, three strategically located nursing stations, private and spacious treatment rooms and a wireless nurse-call system that provides more efficient nursing care. Using an advanced computer system at bedside, the physician and nurse can quickly track treatment, thus providing timely, effective care.
A helipad for Med-flights is located near the trauma unit and a decontamination treatment area for patients exposed to hazardous material offers a more comfortable, private care environment. A fully digital imaging department next to the ER offers computed tomography scanning, magnetic resonance imaging, cardiac imaging and ultrasound.
