Early detection is essential for increasing successful treatment outcomes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), breast cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women and it’s the second most common cause of death from cancer among white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. Black women have a higher risk of death from breast cancer than white women. About 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer during her life. Cervical cancer was at one time the leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. The significant decline in cervical cancer is largely the result of women getting regular Pap tests, which can find abnormal precancerous cells before they turn into cancer.
Women interested in receiving EWL services can contact Jen Raymond, Certified Breast Nurse Navigator, at (804) 765-6672 or jennifer_raymond@chs.net. Patients enrolled with EWL receive nurse navigation services through their continuum of care.
