For more information or to make an appointment to donate, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or sign up online at redcrossblood.org with sponsor code Southside.
As a special thank you, if you come to give, SRMC is giving each donor a meal ticket to the SRMC café the American Red Cross is giving a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card.
“This is one of the most important times of the year to give, due to the shortages,” says SRMC Transfusion Services Chief Tech, India Wilbourne. “During the holidays, we usually experience a severe shortage because people travel, do not want and/or have time to donate. Donating during this critical time is a much needed necessity for the community. Get in the spirit of giving, and donate to save lives!”
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.
